Abstract Background and Objective: This paper affirms that creativity is one of the important features of architectural designs and a major concern for designers. Nevertheless, it seems that creativity has received less attention from the builders of industrial units. In this regard, the present article seeks to analyze the reasons, barriers, and solutions for enhancing creativity in the architectural design of industrial units. To this end, it evaluates formal and constructional innovation (as one of the main components of creativity) in the design of these units.
Methodology: The current study is based on a mixed-methods approach and secondary analysis. In the quantitative section, it utilizes survey data from a previous study on the architecture of units in the Caspian Industrial Estate. These comprise 63 industrial units, whose formal and constructional status was determined through observation. In the qualitative section, it cites the findings of a previous study regarding the nature of the design process in industrial complexes. Subsequently, through rational argumentation and data comparison, it analyzes the reasons, barriers, and solutions for enhancing creativity in the architectural design of industrial units.
Results and Findings: The results indicated that the use of novel forms has not been a concern for the designers or builders of industrial units. Furthermore, the results confirmed that despite a higher level of constructional innovation, this novelty was primarily concentrated in the area of modern materials and prefabrication, and did not extend to novelty in structural systems. The industrial nature and its relationship with the reduction of creative dimensions in design, the failure to generalize innovation to other technical areas, and the repetition of clichéd designs are the most significant challenges or barriers in the path of promoting creativity in these designs. Finally, the article presents solutions to overcome these conditions.

Presenting a model for assessing architectural flexibility in co-working spaces (by reviewing previous definitions)

Volume 7, Issue 2, Summer 2026, Pages 453-473

Javad Goudini

Abstract Background and Objective: This paper has confirmed that coworking spaces, as one of the emerging spaces, require flexibility. However, the models presented for assessing flexibility in architectural design face two problems. The first problem is that such models have been presented for other uses such as housing, etc., and the second problem is that little effort has been made to modify and improve existing models. This paper seeks to present a model for assessing flexibility in the architecture of coworking spaces.
Methodology: This research, which is descriptive-analytical in nature, adopts an inductive approach and seeks to extract components for flexible collaborative work units by reviewing and analyzing existing written sources on flexibility. These sources were collected from various Persian and English fields in various disciplines (from Google Scholar and Magiran) and comparison and rational arguments were used to analyze them.
Findings and Results: The results showed that this research has shown that flexibility in the architectural design of collaborative work units can be assessed at three levels: general flexibility (through the ten components of changeability, ease of change, non-disappearance, consideration of uncertainty, the existence of multiple options, coordination with new requirements, no need for permanent changes, reversibility, the need for a force for change, and its solution-oriented nature); general architectural flexibility (through the three dimensions of internal/external; micro/macro; physical/spatial) and architectural flexibility related to collaborative work (at dual organizational and temporal scales).

The place of mosques in giving identity to neighborhoods and urban space

Volume 4, Issue 1, Spring 2023, Pages 19-29

Javad Akbari, Fatemeh Ghasemi

Abstract Background and Aim: Today's man is not able to live without considering what has happened to him, and in order to have a better life, he must rely on the infrastructure he has already acquired. Human identity is manifested in the most basic state in the environment that is self-decorated. With the arrival of cultural elements from other countries, especially western countries, the culture and the identity of the Iranian society have undergone changes; Therefore, today, the discussion about identity and culture has been paid attention to in various scientific branches. Since one of the methods of investigating the identity of society is to pay attention to its spatial and urban communication elements, this article is presented with the aim of investigating the place of mosque architecture in giving identity to the urban space. The goals of this research are to revive the urban space and its aesthetic features, to breathe a new spirit in different social, economic, cultural and physical fields, to change the level of culture, to preserve and promote ancient values, to create a contemporary urban space with the pattern of elements Tradition and consolidation of the sense of belonging to the named place.
Methods: The research method in the data collection section was carried out in a qualitative manner, the extraction and examination of the elements of identity in the architecture of mosques was carried out in the form of a conceptual diagram and in a library and documentary manner.
Findings and Conclusion: The findings of the research show that paying attention to the body and the way of arranging spaces and other urban elements, along with the cultural and spiritual issues that are the duties of urban designers, are among the things that promote the identity of mosques in the urban space.
