Explaining and evaluating the quality of citizens' public spaces (case study: mental health status of the elderly in Region 2 of Ardabil Municipality)

Abstract Background and Objective: Simultaneously with the rapid growth of cities and their physical development, we sometimes witness the decline in the environmental quality of urban spaces, which has caused various crises in urban life. Today, urbanization problems include a wide range of psychological disorders such as: stress, aggression, irritability, depression, boredom, and physical complaints. Therefore, the purpose of the present study is to explain the public spaces of the city and its role in the mental and psychological health of the citizens of Ardabil
.Methodology:  The present study is applied in terms of its purpose, descriptive-analytical in nature, and documentary and survey in terms of data collection. In this study, two questionnaires (researcher-made and the World Health Organization Quality of Life Questionnaire) were used to collect data The statistical population of the study was the elderly over 60 years of age living in District 2 of Ardabil, which numbered (10,885) people. Based on the Cochran formula, a sample size of 371 questionnaires was obtained. Structural equations and statistical tests were used in the SPSS and Smart PLS software environment to analyze the data and examine the relationship between urban environment quality factors and the mental health of the elderly.Based on the research findings,
 Findings and Conclusion: the T-statistic for all variables is greater than (1.96) and is significant at a confidence level of (95.00). The AVE for the social participation variable is (801.00), transportation and access variable (821.00), outdoor space and public buildings (781.00), and safety and convenience (922.00). In relation to the answer to the research question, it can be said that there is a significant relationship between the quality of the city's public space and the mental health of the elderly in Region 2 of Ardabil. With the information collected in the research findings, it was determined that District 2 of Ardabil city is not suitable for the elderly in terms of most aspects of design and planning, such as social participation, access to public transportation and spaces, outdoor space and public buildings, and safety and convenience.

Analysis of Safe Public Spaces :Case Study: Shiraz City Parks

Abstract Background and Aim: In the present century, undesirable urban environments have caused many problems for environmental security and increased social harms, which has resulted in people feeling insecure. In this regard, the present article aims to evaluate and evaluate safety indicators in Shiraz city parks and to measure and rank them based on these indicators
Methods and Material: This research is applied in terms of descriptive-analytical method and type. The statistical population is all individuals and the information was collected through a questionnaire among 300 people from the sample, and the research was analyzed using one-sample T-test and Skull-Wallis statistical tests.
Results and Discussion: The results indicate that the overall level of safety in the parks studied is average, and the indicators of characteristics, legible design, lighting, material safety, feeling of safety, and health safety are in the average to low range with averages of 2.64, 2.83, 2.85, 2.89, 3.07, and 3.41 (according to normal 3), respectively, and the parks of Azadi, Besat, Ghodousi Gharbi, Khaldabrin, Kowsar, and Chamran are ranked first to sixth in terms of safety indicators studied with ranks of 6.2, 2.74, 2.17, 1.7, 2.49, and 3.46, respectively. Therefore, according to the findings, it is suggested: to improve the lighting conditions of the parks for night use, use and protection of equipment in the park, use of restrooms, and to think of solutions and implement them. Measures to prevent addicts and street vagrants from entering parks, etc., are being considered to improve the safety of the parks under study.

Rehabilitation of Decayed Urban Fabrics, Applying the Increasing the Environmental Safety of Public Spaces Approach (Case Study: Beryanak Neighborhood, Region 10 of Tehran)

Abstract Background and Aim: Rehabilitation of decayed urban fabrics is one of the solutions that have been aimed in order to improve the living conditions, especially the issue of safety, in these textures. Therefore, in this paper, following the investigation of the rehabilitation of the decayed urban fabrics with the approach of increasing the environmental safety of public spaces in Beryanak neighborhood is intended to achieve.
Methods: The method is descriptive and analytical-survey. The statistical population is the residents of Beryanak neighborhood located in region 10 of Tehran. The required data is collected through both library and field methods using books, articles, theses, documents, interviews, questionnaires and GIS. The scope of this research is the region 10 of Tehran, especially Beryanak neighborhood. Cochran's formula was used to determine the sample size which equals384, equivalent questionnaires were filled out among through random sampling approach. The collected data was analyzed using statistical tests in spss software; tests were included coefficients test, regression correlation and one-sample t-test.
Findings and Conclusion: Rehabilitation and renovating the decayed urban fabrics of the neighborhood will be pointed to improve the skeleton of buildings, quality of their construction materials, adjust the floors, which can lead to increasing the durability of buildings and safety especially in term of crisis management. Therefore, rehabilitation and renovating of problematic fabrics of the neighborhoods, especially in the Beryanak neighborhood, which has plenty of decayed area and caused the deterioration of the quality of life for its residents, can provide physical, economic and environmental prosperity in this neighborhood and increase the quality of  life and prosperity to its residents.
