Exploring the Energy Efficiency of Traditional Houses: Lessons for Modern Architecture

Volume 4, Issue 3, Autumn 2023, Pages 49-60

Sara Mohammadzadeh Akbari

Abstract Background and Aim: The increasing importance of fossil fuels in the last century and the lack of non-renewable resources on earth has led to the extinction of human life. In recent years, there has been a shift towards cleaner methods where energy pollution from non-renewable sources is minimized. Each climate has its own conditions and characteristics, and this is the trend towards sustainable architecture in the traditional architecture of Iran. The importance of using energy to provide solutions increases at all levels. Due to its location on the sun belt, Iran is one of the suitable areas to benefit from the sunlight, and it is possible to increase the comfort function by taking advantage of the climatic features and the features of the traditional elements of sustainable architecture, taking into account efficiency and productivity. important indicators such as: orientation based on three institutionalized rune categories and models for city and house structure in Iran, walls in terms of materials and thickness, form of roofs, color and openings of external surfaces of traditional houses, etc. were used so that the amount of consumption It reduced the energy so as to be able to get rid of the environmental problems of the city.
Methods: The research method in this article is descriptive-analytical, and the library method was used to collect information and data.
Findings and Conclusion: By examining the theories of logical reasoning for the documentation of the texts, in this method it is tried to spread the qualitative and conceptual strategy issues in this research, and at the end of the research, the indicators of sustainability in the traditional houses of Iran were presented; As he got ideas and lessons from the energy efficiency of traditional Iranian houses to achieve a desirable design for today's modern architecture.

Rural Planning

Study the effect of climatic criteria on rural housing design (Case study: Dehlran and Ivan cities - Ilam province

Volume 3, Issue 4, Winter 2023, Pages 21-32

Abstract Man has always been looking for a way to meet his needs. Since the beginning of history, housing has been a place to achieve this logical desire, and with the formation of housing together with quality, it has traveled its way towards obtaining peace. On the other side, environmental and climatic conditions have been effective in the formation of housing in villages and have followed appropriate patterns in a historical process in the direction of sustainable development. Based on the experiences of the villagers according to the subsistence and climatic needs throughout history, the appropriate pattern of rural housing can be analyzed and by discovering and introducing these patterns, they can be used as part of the principles and criteria of rural housing. Ilam province has four climates on its area, which has caused various patterns in the formation of rural and urban contexture. The climate has played a significant role in the formation of the form, orientation and establishment of the building, texture and other characteristics of the housing. The purpose of this research is to comply with the necessary requirements to design the most optimal model of housing for villagers in different areas of Ilam province, which are the basic requirements of engineers for the architectural and structural designs of these houses. The descriptive research method is an analysis that was conducted in the field through the distribution of questionnaires and indirectly through the library. The necessary graphs have been obtained by using AHP pairwise comparison questionnaire tool. The results of this research show that in the design of rural housing in Dehlran and Ivan cities, among the climatic factors, rain has the most effect in Ivan city by 0.833 and radiation has the most effect in Dehlran city by 0.875.

Urban Design

Investigation of Physical Components of Sustainable Architecture in Educational Space (Case Study: François Mitterrand School, Brazil)

Volume 3, Issue 2, Summer 2022, Pages 135-155

Abstract Background and Aim: n recent years, the environmental crisis has been one of the main concerns of human beings. Increasing energy consumption and its impact on the future of the environment has made the design of buildings with a sustainable architectural approach of particular importance. Meanwhile, the physical structure and shape of schools, their environmental and technological qualities, have a great impact on education, culture and achieving a livable world. The main purpose of this study is to achieve the physical characteristics effective in promoting sustainable architecture in schools, so that the physical environment of the school becomes an educational tool for learning environmental issues and sustainable development.
Methods: The present article is of applied type and is a qualitative and descriptive analytical research method. Data collection is based on documentary studies, review of texts, sources and experiences that lead to the extraction of a conceptual model. Finally, the physical indicators derived from the model are analyzed in a case study (François Mitterrand School) and solutions are proposed to design the educational space based on the physical indicators of sustainable development.
Findings and Conclusion: Findings show that the components that promote sustainability in the educational environment include four main components: physical, environmental, social and economic. In the meantime, the physical component can turn a school into an educational tool for environmental issues and its characteristics include the use of daylight, improving indoor air quality, communication with natural elements, space design to support environmental activity, conscious choice Materials are physical flexibility, reduction of energy consumption through the body and the use of stability elements, which also affect the case study.
