Abstract

Rapid population growth, the expansion of industrial activities, technological advancement, and new consumption patterns have led to a significant increase in the generation of urban solid waste; to the extent that in 1970 alone, approximately 200 million tons of waste were produced worldwide. In most countries, particularly developing nations, the accumulation of waste materials and its subsequent consequences have become one of the most serious challenges to the urban environment, and inefficient waste management imposes heavy costs on urban systems. The present study aims to assess the state of urban environmental sustainability with an emphasis on the critical role of solid waste management in the city of Pishva. The research method is descriptive-analytical, utilizing primary field data (questionnaires and interviews). The statistical sample consists of 380 individuals. Data analysis was conducted using multiple regression analysis. The findings indicate that among the components of environmental sustainability, the environmental component, with a mean of 3.43, is most affected by urban solid waste management, while the spatial component, with a mean of 2.88, is the least affected. The results of the analysis indicate a significant relationship between urban solid waste management and the level of environmental sustainability in the city of Pishva.
